BOATS IN HARBOUR / UNKNOWN / Gouache and Watercolour on Paper / Framed 440 x 550 mm
While we cannot confirm the artist, date produced or location we can find similarities in mid century paintings of Cornwall Harbour. This area, particularly St Ives is renowned for being a dramatic background for a colony of Modern Arts as seen in the BBC Documentary, The Art Of Cornwall.
The complex arrangement of sails, ropes, planes of glass are held down and buffeted by those billowy white clouds which bounce intense light into this study of colours and repetitive shapes. This may have been painted by a trained artist or an amateur, either way it is a wonderful painting.
