A Ukyio print is also known as 'Pictures of the Floating World' and refer to the Edo period between 1600 -1867. Japanese artists of this period recorded urban lifestyles, scenes from theatre and the spirit world. The images were carved into a wood block and printed on rice paper, sometimes in large numbers to sell to the public. This image is spread over 2 pages and suggests that it was part of a book. It is mounted on acid free card.
