These images were taken while working on the film, The Decadent and Depraved at film locations throughout the Goldfields and Mid-West Region of Western Australia. Vast empty landscapes with a purity of colour and deserted miners cottages punctuated with bright shafts of light and heat. The township of Gwalia was once home to over 1200 miners and their families from 1890 - 1963. When the Sons of Gwalia Mine closed so did this vibrant and multicultural community. Despite this being marketed as a ghost town there is a warm nostalgia to be experienced.
JMK Ashton trained as a studio printmaker and has an interest in the built environment, landscape, developing collections and history. She also designed the display box.
